NAL-60 Geothermal project

  • Nal jarðvarmi

Preparation work for a 45 MW geothermal power plant at Theystareykir in North-East Iceland has been ongoing over the past years.

The project has reached several important milestones this year with first signing of a contract with the consortium Fuji electric and Balcke Dürr for the purchase of a 45 MW power generating unit and cold end equipment. The construction of the powerhouse and steam supply system is now ongoing. And more recently, Landsvirkjun has signed an ECA (Export Credit Agency) loan agreement in relation to a supply contract for two 45 MW geothermal turbines from Fuji Electric. More on Landsvirkjun website.

The first 45 MW unit at the Theistareykir Geothermal Power Plant is scheduled to commence operation in 2017. A second 45 MWe unit is also planned.
The consortium Verkís/Mannvit has been appointed by Landsvirkjun in 2011 to conduct the design, tendering and construction supervision of the power plants.
