Geothermal Power
Our geothermal experts are an internationally sought after resource and it is our intention to increase our international activities in the field over the coming years.
Geothermal power has, over the last decade, gradually increased its importance as an electrical power source in Iceland. Currently, installed power of geothermal power plants is 575 MW, which translates to 23.4% of total installed power. The total installed power worldwide is about 10 GWe.
The Icelandic geothermal power industry has considerably expanded over the last years, with the 8 units generating 340 MW starting production successfully over the 2006-2008 period. Verkís has participated in implementation of all those projects.
Verkís has considerable knowledge and experience in the field of geothermal power and has been involved in preparation, design and installation of almost all geothermal power plants in Iceland since the begining of the geothermal energy industry expansion in the 1970‘s.
