Hydropower
Verkís is in the forefront with regard to experience in design of hydroelectric power plants in Iceland. We have worked for all the larger hydroelectric power generation companies in the country, with both larger and smaller plants, and have also worked on projects abroad. Our work on power plants goes back to the origin of the company in 1932 and hydropower has been one of our core businesses ever since. Verkís has been involved in a wide range of projects, from small plants with about one MW of installed capacity to the large Kárahnjúkar power plant with 690 MW installed capacity, which is a technically complex plant, referred in several international publications.
Our services include feasibility studies, procurement services, project and construction management, construction inspection services, plant start-up services and engineering services within a wide variety of fields. Verkís also provides services related to the operation and maintenance of hydropower plants and to status reviews and engineering services for upgrading and renewal of older plants.
