Energy production
Access to sufficient power supply is a major factor in the development and sustenance of all cultures and societies. Iceland is in the unique position of having access to a plentiful supply of renewable power in the form of geothermal power and hydropower. Some of these natural resource sites have now been developed, but there are still a considerable volume which still remains to be developed.
Verkís is one of the leading companies in the energy sector in Iceland and has been and still is a major participant in the development of these natural resources. Verkís has participated in the design of most power plants in Iceland since the middle of the twentieth century and has been the leading consultant in many of them. These projects have included both geothermal power plants and hydropower plants and have included most fields of engineering.
In addition to the power plants in Iceland, Verkís has designed power plants abroad, such as in Greenland and in El Salvador.
