Analysis and disposal of hazardous waste - Maniitsoq
Greenland
Verkís was responsible for environmental analysis and planning of disposal of hazardous waste.
Sizes: Ten apartment buildings, 8.237 m2 |
Project time: 2014 - 2018 |
About the project:
Verkís performed an environmental analysis and waste disposal plan for the demolition of ten greenhouses owned by the Greenland State, in the town of Maniitsoq. No one had lived in some of the houses for a long time.
All the apartments needed a lot of maintenance and after examination it became clear that it wouldn't be worth the cost to of repairing them. It was therefore decided to demolish them and move the remaining residents to other apartments. The apartments totaled 8,237 square meters. About 90% of all properties in Greenland are own by the state.
Samples were taken from all building materials and sent for analysis to show how harmful the fabrics were. Afterwards a demolition plan was drawn up and Verkís submitted three reports.
Verkís hf. in Iceland and S&M Verkís in Greenland worked on the project together.
