Project overview:
New, greenfield, Silicon Metal Plant with two 30 MW furnaces at Bakki in Northern Iceland, designed for the production of 32.000 tons of 99% pure Silicon Metal per year. The main buildings on site will be a furnace building for two furnaces, a material storage building, final product storage, a HV switchyard building, workshops and an office building. Most of the buildings are designed as steel frame buildings and some will be made of concrete.
Verkís was responsible for the engineering design concerning all civil works, structural design, HVAC, electrical, HSE and more. Designing of the plot was also included in Verkís scope of work, a relatively complicated task due to the fact that the site is located in a slope and therefore the optimum locations for buildings and levels for the site had to be derived. The site design included general layouting, site level planning, cut and fill planning, engineering of roads and parking areas, site lighting, HSE and more.
Verkís composed bid documents for all civil and structural work on site, collected bids and completed an evaluation of bids received on behalf of the client.
