Búðarháls substation
Southern Iceland
Verkís services was project management, all electrical design, all mechanical design, project planning design, design memoranda, technical specifications and tender documents both for the civil work and the substation equipment, all detail design of the substation building´s appurtenances; piping, ventilation, embedded earthing and electrical installations.
Sizes: 220 kV |
Project time: 2011 - 2014 |
Project overview:
The substation is equipped with 220 [245] kV AIS switchgear with single main busbars. The circuit breakers are of the Disconnecting Circuit Breaker (DCB) type and no disconnectors therefore installed in the substation. The substation has three bays, two transformer bays, and one transmission line terminal without circuit breaker. The transformer bays are connected by cables to unit transformers in a nearby Hydro Power Plant. The substation is equipped with all necessary auxiliary equipment such as 400 V distribution and double 110 V DC systems. The control system is by numerical bay controllers dedicated for switchgear control and simple local SCADA system. The highest control level is from dispatch centre in Reykjavík via gateway. The protection relays are of modern numerical type.
The switchgear is located in a steel frame building for weather protection. The auxiliary equipment, control and protection equipment is located in a small concreted building.
