Verkís services was project management, design management, design of control- and protection equipment, design review of auxiliary systems designed by contractor, factory testing and construction assistance.

 Sizes: 66 kV
 Project time:  2013 - 2014

Project overview:
In 2013-2014 a new 370 m2 substation was built in Ísafjörður. Verkís did a preliminary- and tender design, preparation of tender documents and detail design, both civil and electrical engineering parts. The project included a 0,5 km connection of two 66 kV and three 11 kV underground cables, also designed by Verkís.

The substation, which is constructed for Landsnet, the Icelandic transmission system operator, and Orkubú Vestfjarða, Westfjord Power Company, is on one floor and is divided into three parts; HV switchgear hall, power transformer bays and a service part. The substation houses four 66 kV switchgear bays and two 66/11 kV power transformers. The building is mostly concreted on site and insulated on the outside. The roof is supported by laminated timber.

During construction, Verkís was responsible for the site supervision of civil work. This included general supervision, site meetings, minutes of meetings, quality assurance, schedule and cost as well as review of invoices and approval. HSE-matters at the construction site was also included in the Verkís's scope.
