water supply systems
Verkís offers service for waterworks design, an area in which its staff have extensive experience and expertise.
Company personnel have experience of geological exploration for drinking water, reservoir tapping, and the design of water supply systems. Clean water has to be delivered to consumers, so water systems construction is demanding work. Large volumes of good drinking water are available in many places in Iceland, where pure groundwater emerges from underneath lava fields and sloping gravel deposits. In other places, groundwater is not as easily accessible, and water must be collected from many reservoirs or surface water taken from nearby lakes or direct runoff streams. The company has good experience in treating this kind of surface water to make it drinkable and conform to quality standards. This includes lagoonal sedimentation and filtering followed by ultraviolet light irradiation.
Verkís uses powerful computer software to analyse and design complicated water supply systems and high-volume pipe systems for both steady and intermittent supply.
Various projects of a similar nature, but on a smaller scale, include piping systems in buildings, for example sprinkler systems. Verkís can also offer clients measurements of water-hydrant output and pressure. Continuous recording flow and pressure meters are used, which can measure these factors for shorter or longer periods of time.
