6/12/2022 : Hólasandur High-voltage line 3 officially put into operation

Hólasandur HIgh-voltage line 3 was officially put into operation at a ceremony in Akureyri September 30th together with two new 220 kV substations at the end points of the line. The aim of the project is to improve energy efficiency, increase transmission capacity and ensure the stability of the electricity system in North and East Iceland.

6/12/2022 : Verkís receives a grant from OR's Science Fund

The cooperation project of Verkís, University of Reykjavík, Veitur and Norwegian Marine Research Institute, Assessment of the cleaning efficiency of blue-green surface water solutions in Iceland and the protection of water quality in the Reykjavík City Pond, has received a grant of 8.5 million ISK from Orkuveita Reykjavíkur's Science Fund.

31/10/2022 : Verkís took part in the business delegation of the President of Iceland to Slovakia

Verkís took part in the business delegation of the President of Iceland to Slovakia last week, while the presidential couple were there on an official visit. The focus of the visit was on energy exchange and dissemination of Icelanders' knowledge in the field of geothermal energy.

26/10/2022 : New borehole put into use at Seltjarnarnes

Last week, the new borehole of Hitaveita Seltjarnarnes was put into full operation. The borehole replaces another one that was drilled in 1972 and was one of the main heating supply boreholes in Seltjarnarnes until it was damaged in the spring of 2021. Verkís participated in the work in various ways.

Verkís is currently working on a major project for Norðurál, the new Billet Casthouse at Grundartangi. The casthouse will house the company's newest production line, where aluminum billets will be produced.

29/6/2022 : Verkís to explore direct geothermal utilisation in Djibouti

Verkís has recently been awarded a grant from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs‘ Sustainable Development Goals Partnership Fund to explore opportunities for direct geothermal utilisation in Djibouti. Research in the last few decades has shown that there are opportunities for developing geothermal energy in Djibouti, yet greater geothermal utilisation has not been achieved.

Óðinstorg in downtown Reykjavík has won the Icelandic lighting award, for exterior lighting. The project will represent Iceland in the 2022 Nordic Lighting Prize, held in Sweden this fall.

The HYDRO 2022 conference was held in Strasbourg, France 25 to 27 April. Verkís representative to the conference was Þorbergur Steinn Leifsson, civil engineer in Department of Energy and Industry. Verkís also participated in a joint stand of Icelandic companies.

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation; Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland; and Egill Viðarsson, Ivon Stefán Cilia and Hrafnhildur Ólafsdóttir representing a consulting team from Verkís, TBL architects and John Cooper Architecture, signed a contract earlier this month for the comprehensive design of a new building to house the University of Iceland's School of Health Sciences.
